First Annual Back to School Date Night

Tonight was a special night.

DaddyMan and I took PrincessGirl on a date. LittleMan stayed with KayeKaye (our fantastic neighbor and friend). It was just the three of us. I decided back in the spring to purchase prepackaged school supplies for PrincessGirl - best $35 I've ever spent. So we stole the idea of making a special evening out of picking out a new backpack and lunch box from our friends that have experience with school aged children, (thanks guys)!

PrincessGirl, being the guest of honor, got to pick ANYTHING she wanted for dinner - her choice - sushi! It was amazing. I highly recommend MK's Sushi in Bedford. The sushi chef made PrincessGirl an adorable fish sculpture made out of rice, shrimp, octopus, and cucumbers. She ate the cucumbers, rice and shrimp. She chewed on the octopus and spit it out. After she finished her edmame, the chef made her a "Mickey Mouse" out of an orange. PrincessGirl loved it because it was cute and delicious - who doesn't like cute food?

And we set out to buy her a new backpack and lunch box and first day of school outfit.

I decided on Grapevine Mills Mall as our shopping destination because they have SEVERAL places that I thought we could look for cute backpacks. We began at Children's Place where PrincessGirl promptly chose the first backpack and lunch box she saw - leopard print and bright pink. (Weird since I would have looked at that one, loved it, shopped in every other store in the mall that may have backpacks and several that don't before returning to buy first backpack that I saw.) She also had her heart set on wearing a skirt on the first day of school so we got a really cute pink and brown skirt and a darling brown T-Shirt with sparkles on it - because, clearly, we aim to blend in!

I got some red and brown shoes (exactly what I wanted and "needed") and we got a dessert to go at Corner Bakery.

This was an amazing night. It was so special to hang out with our little girl one more time before we send her out into the world where undoubtedly, she will change.

Stay tuned for pictures from "Meet Your Teacher" and The First Day of Kindergarten.

And meet me back here next year for a recap of the Second Annual Back to School Date Night because this, my friends, just became a family tradition.

Ahhhh. SO FUN! I didn't answer you call this afternoon because my car had transformed into a boat and I was floating in crazy water down Harwood. Not really. But it was raining waaaaay to badly to pick up the phone. I have no idea what thos sleeve things are called...and this saddens me b/c I SO wanted to impress my friend. I am so sorry. I just call them tabbed sheet protectors.

Anyway...I cannot wait to see the pics. I kind of want to come with you on her meet the teacher b/c I'm so excited for her.

Aw. I like that your blog has gone from "poop and the bath" to "princess and the backpack." You keep us guessing!

And how exciting for all of you! Love the date night idea.

Yay! What a great night with K. She will look too cute on her first day. Are you a total mess about sending her to kindergarten like I was with Luke?

Also, it too everything in me to read the last few sentences of your post without throwing up because I could see the poop.

The back-to-school traditions are so fun! Get the camera charged and ready to go! Your kindergartener chose the girl appropriate pink, sparkly stuff. My kindergartener chose the boy appropriate Spider Man lunch box and Lightningn McQueen backpack. Man, they're goin to be stylin' in Harris' class this year! :-)
